Follow the steps below to use an extension from Google Chrome as a screen reader.
1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and Search for ChromeVox
Open Google Chrome and type chrome.google.com/webstore into the address bar. In the search bar at the top left, type “ChromeVox” and press enter to search for the ChromeVox extension.
2. Select ChromeVox and Confirm it is the Official Google Version
In the search results, click on ChromeVox Screen Reader from the list. Ensure that the extension is marked as developed by Google. This will guarantee that you’re downloading the correct version.
3. Click “Add to Chrome” to Install the Extension
On the ChromeVox extension page, click the blue “Add to Chrome” button at the top right.
A popup will appear asking for confirmation—click “Add extension” to complete the installation.
4. Use the Chrome Toolbar or Shortcut to Enable ChromeVox
Once the extension is installed, click the ChromeVox icon in the Chrome toolbar to enable it. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Alt + Z on your keyboard to quickly activate or deactivate the screen reader.

5. Adjust ChromeVox Settings to Customize Your Experience
Click the three-dot option beside the extension in the puzzle icon and select “Options” to access settings.
Here, you can adjust settings such as speech rate and volume and choose from different voices to match your preferences.
