Export Internet Explorer Bookmarks to Google Chrome
Follow the steps below to export bookmarks from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome.
1. Open the Favorites Sidebar in Internet Explorer
Press “Ctrl + Shift + I” to open the Favorites sidebar on the left side of Internet Explorer. This will display all your saved bookmarks (called Favorites in Internet Explorer). Here you can see the favorites sidebar on the left of the screen.
2. Open the Import and Export Menu in Internet Explorer
Press “Alt” to reveal the menu bar. Click “File,” then select “Import and Export” from the dropdown. This will allow you to export your Favorites to a file.
3. Select “Export to a File” in the Import and Export Dialog
When the Import and Export dialog opens, select “Export to a file” and click “Next.” This option will save your Favorites in a format that can be transferred to Chrome.
4. Choose Favorites to Export From Internet Explorer
In the next step, choose “Favorites” by checking the box. This is the data you want to export, which is Internet Explorer’s version of bookmarks. Click “Next” to proceed.
Choose which folder to export. In our example, let’s choose “Autodesk,” then click on “Next.”
5. Save the Exported Favorites File to an Easy-to-Find Location
Select where to save the exported file on your computer. Choose a location that’s easy to find, like your desktop. Name the file something recognizable, then click “Export.”
Select “Finish” to complete the export.
6. Open Chrome’s Import Bookmarks and Settings Menu
Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome. Go to “Bookmarks and lists,” then select “Import Bookmarks and Settings.” This will open the import options dialog.
7. Select “Bookmarks HTML File” and Choose the Exported File
In the import dialog, click on the drop-down arrow, then select “Bookmarks HTML file” from the drop-down menu.
Then click “Choose File.”
Locate your HTML file, then select “Open.”
8. Import the Exported File to Chrome and Finish the Process
After selecting the file, click “Open” to begin the import. Chrome will automatically add all your Internet Explorer Favorites (bookmarks) to its bookmarks bar or folder.
