In this tutorial, we will show you exactly how to export Safari passwords to Chrome in just a few simple steps. Read on to learn more.
Exporting Passwords From Safari to Chrome
Follow the steps below to move Safari passwords to Chrome.
1. Access Safari Password Settings
Click on “Safari” in the top-left corner of your screen, next to the Apple icon. Alternatively, you can press “Cmd +.“
From the drop-down menu, select “Settings” (on older versions of macOS, it might be labeled “Preferences“).
In the Settings/Preferences window, click on the “Passwords” tab. Unlock the section by using your Touch ID or by entering your Mac’s password.
2. Export Passwords from Safari to a CSV File
Select the passwords you want to export by clicking on them.
Once the list of passwords appears, click on the “…” button at the top.
Select “Export 2 Selected Passwords.” You can opt to download all if you want by clicking on “Export All Passwords.”
Click “Export Passwords.”
Confirm the export and save the file in a secure location as a CSV file. Click “Save” to finish the export.
3. Import Passwords Directly in Chrome
Once Chrome is opened, click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and select “Settings.”
Under “Autofill and passwords,” click on “Google Password Manager.”
Once in the Google Passwords Manager, click on “Import passwords” under the Settings tab.
A window will appear where you will choose “Save to Google Passwords Manager for [your email]” or “Save to Google Passwords Manager on this device.” After choosing, click on “Select file.”
Choose the file that you exported earlier. In our case, let’s choose “Passwords.csv” then click “Open.”
4. Verify All Imported Passwords in Chrome Password Manager
The import is successful when you see this window.
You can “View Passwords” to check the imported passwords.
5. Delete CSV File to Protect Password Security
Delete the CSV file containing your passwords by ticking off the box so that the passwords will not be accessed by others who use the same device.
